Home life and sibling issues

Parents can have difficulty in providing a 'normal' home for any other children. Siblings classically respond in one of two ways. The first is to indulge in anti-social behaviour because they observe that this is the way to gain their parents' attention. This can include younger siblings becoming involved with the same perpetrators. The second is to become the 'good' child as they see the devastation that their sibling is causing. This is usually accompanied by extreme resentment (often extending into adulthood) because they think that their good behaviour was hardly noticed.

A child is a person under the age of 18. Typically, perpetrators target children aged between 11 and 15.

'The true cost of sexual exploitation can NOT be underestimated. Destruction to our family life and the impact on our health and well-being has been truly unbelievable.'

'This has changed me. Nothing will ever shock me. I am not the same person, not myself. I am not emotional anymore.'

Parent

'It was like a volcano. We just could not cope.'

Parent

'It was horrendous for my older daughter. She felt she had to be this good child all the time. She felt pressurised.'
