Service Overview

To combat the sexual exploitation of children and young people CROP provides a range of services to parents, carers, professionals, and statutory and voluntary agencies. CROP’s work falls into three main areas as highlighted below.

1. Parent support work

CROP supports parents in the following ways:

  • telephone advice;
  • one to one support;
  • self-help among parents;
  • advocacy.

2. Raising public awareness

CROP raises public awareness by:

  • training agencies;
  • providing appropriate responses to the media – from many angles within CROP (including staff, trustees and parents);
  • contributing to legislation, and national and local policies and practice;
  • liaising with other groups, agencies and organisations.

3. Highlighting and tackling the role of perpetrators

CROP highlights and tackles the role of perpetrators by:

  • disseminating material regarding the sexual exploitation process;
  • providing relevant intelligence and other information to appropriate agencies;
  • pursuing convictions.

All of this work is underpinned by evidence-based research emanating from the actual experiences of parents.

A child is a person under the age of 18. Typically, perpetrators target children aged between 11 and 15.
