My daughter became a prostitute at 16. Her pimp is her first ‘boyfriend’, whom she met when she was 14⅟2. He introduced her to crack cocaine and heroin. Both my daughter and her pimp are HIV positive. Both are injecting addicts. My daughter supports her drug addiction by committing crimes including shoplifting, mugging, prostitution and fraud.
In 2002 my daughter was placed on a Community Rehabilitation Order but this is meaningless because provided she attends weekly probation appointments she is considered to be complying with the Order. None of the agencies liaise with each other, so it’s just a waste of time.
Social services became involved when my daughter had a baby at 16. The child was taken into care and subsequently adopted. I thought then that I would receive some sort of help but no one would listen to me. As a mother I had no rights whatsoever. My daughter is totally out of control and no agency is willing to take any action.
My daughter has thrombosis blood clots in and weeping ulcers on her legs. She injects in her groin, and her clothes are constantly covered in blood and puss from the sores. In my opinion she is a hazard to society. She works on the street every night and could be infecting at least 10 punters every night with HIV. I have reported this to her probation officer but no one seems bothered.
When I collect my daughter’s washing I have to handle everything wearing gloves because I never know what I’m going to find in or on her clothes. Condoms, crack pipes and needles regularly float around my washing machine.
She has been subjected to violence and abduction while out on the street.
As a parent this is my worst nightmare. My colleagues regularly see my daughter working on the street. The humiliation is unbearable. Worse is the fact that when she goes to court for prostitution-related offences she receives nothing more than a fine.
My daughter and her pimp live with his mother in squat conditions in a one-bedroom warden controlled old person's property. I have reported this to the local council, social services, probation and the drugs worker but still no one will take steps to change this situation.
My daughter has no life. It feels as if I am watching her die in front of my eyes.
This is only my story. It could quite easily become my daughter's obituary.
